On 6 July 1900, Theodore (41) and Martha A. (33) Jones lived with their children and step-children on a farm they owned free in Cleveland Twp. (Dewey) OK. Archie R. was about 18 (illegibile), Vangie(?) was 15, Flossie was 11, Parks was 8, Foster was 5, Deal (stepson) was 9, and Clark (stepson) was 7. All could read and write except for the youngest, Foster. Theodore was a farmer, Archie R. was a farm worker, and Vangie, Flossie, Parks, Deal, and Clark were at school 5 months during the past year. Martha A.’s brother Eli Deal and his family lived immediately adjacent.
On 16 Apr 1910, Theodore (51) and Martha A. (43) Jones lived with their children and step-children in Clark Twp., Dewey Co., OK. Flossie was 20, Deal was 19, Parks and Clark were both 17, and Foster was 14. Martha A. is listed as the mother of 2 children, 2 of whom were alive in 1910. Theodore was a farmer and owned his farm, which was mortgaged. Flossie was a teacher at the common school, unemployed on 15 Apr 1910 and for 15 weeks of the preceeding year. Deal and Parks were laborers on the home farm, and Clark was a farm laborer working on another farm. All were literate; Flossie, Clark, and Foster attended school during the past year.
1910: started working for Collier Brothers furniture and hardware stores.
On 5 Jun 1917, Clark was working as a clerk at Collier Bros., New Wilson OK. Draft card says he has a wife, child, and mother dependent on his support. (But Clark wasn’t born ‘til 1919; who is the child?) Medium height, medium build, brown hair.
On 4 Feb 1920, Clark (27) and Mable M. (28) Jones were living at home with their son Clark E. (11 mos.) on 5th St, Wilson (Carter) OK. They owned their home and it was mortgaged. Clark is listed as being literate, but Mable is not. (Mable’s parents are also erroneously listed as both being from Nebraska.) Clark was a wage worker as a hardware store clerk.
On 11 April 1930, Clark and Mabele [sic] lived at 612 5th St., Wilson (Carter) OK with their son Clark E. (This calls into question the divorce date of 1926 provided by Clark E. Jones.) They owned their home and had a radio, and all could read and write. Clark E. attended school within the year. Clark and Mabel married when they were 19 and 24 years old, respectively (although this contradicts their 1892 birth years). The census lists them as 35 and 30 years old, respectively (which is backwards relative to their marriage ages). Clark was a hardware clerk.
Clark’s birthdate of 1892 is suspect based on information from Clark E. Jones; Clark should’ve been born before Deal (b. 1890). This also would explain the discrepancy in birth year from 1930 census.
William R. Jones only met Clark Jones (his granddad) once.
SSN issued in OK before 1951. Last residence: Durant (Bryan) OK 74701.
