-
Name |
Shmuel-Itskhok Sagalovich |
- When he lived in Chciago he used the name of Isaac Segal. The name on his tombstone in Hebrew is Shmuel-Itskhok Sagalowitch son of Tvsi. The character alef could be translated as either an "A" or "O" so the name could be Sagalawitch or Sogolowitch. The family names used in the Minsk area were either Sagalovitch or Segalovitch. The more common surname in Rakov was Segalovitch. Accordingly, I am going with Segalovitch for now.
- The tombestone shows his father's name as Tvsi which is the Hebrew word for deer. However, according to Alexander Baider, he probably never heard that name used. He would have been called the more common Yiddish word for deer, Hirsh. Since Isaac named one of his sons Hirsh it is likely this son was born after his grandfather's death and was named for his grandfather.

Notes |
- When he came to Chicago in the 1920's he lived with his daughter Sara and her husband Max. He did not always have a pleasant personality. He was bad tempered. Max was always kind to him. Max was one of his few friends and he really liked Max.
He would send money to his wife Sosha to buy a ticket to come to Chicago. She would spend the money on other things and never come.
He was an upholsterer. He developed Bell's palsy and went back to Rakov in 1927 to be with his wife.
