8626 US Census Western District, Frederick County, VA 1830: "William Gibbons." Gibbons, William (I13885)

8627 US Census Winchester, Frederick, VA, "George Reed": 1810 (ages 26 thru 44), 1820 (45 & over), 1830 (60 under 70), 1840 (70 under 80) 1850 (no George Reed listed).

If George Reed were age 44 in 1810, he would have been born in 1766. If he were age 35 in 1810, he would have been born in 1775.

If George Reed were age 69 in 1830, he would have been born in 1761. If he were 60 in 1830, he would have been born in 1770.

If the census data above were accurate, this George Reed may have been born between 1766 and 1770 and died before 1850.

George Reed & Martha Tilden could be the parents of William J. Reed, b. Abt. 1808.

However, in the rental rolls of Frederick County, Virginia in 1759 and 1764 a "John Reed" was listed and in 1782, a "James Reed" was listed. The U.S. Census Frederick, VA in 1810 listed three named "George Reed,"one "James Reed," two named "John Reed," and one "William Reed."

More research is needed for the Reed families before 1850 in Frederick, VA.

William Travis, "History of Clay County, Indiana," (Lewis Publishing, 1909), v. I, p. 170:

"Whttington, Clay, IN. Whittington, in Jackson Township, four miles southeast of Brazil, founded in 1873, by John G. Ackelmire, John Andrew, and R.M. Wingate, [was] named for John Whittington, because of its location, in part, on his farm. The founders were interested in coal lands at this point, where, at the same time, they put down and operated the "Hoosier" shaft, on the Northwest side, from which the post office, established in 1874, was named Hoosierville. By common consent and usage, the town soon became known by the same name. . . ."
