Familysearch.org and Ancestry.com have records with two different birthdates and places of birth for Jethro. Alternate birthdate is 16 July 1746, place of birth either Staffordshire or Cornwall.

Either date would work, but if he was born in 1746, he most likely was born in Cornwall. In his article "The Hornblower Family" T. R. Harris states that Jethro was born at Chacewater 16 July 1746.

Find-A-Grave:

"Rev. Dr. Israel Smyser Diehl was the son of Peter and Anna Maria (Smyser) Diehl. He was the 2nd husband of Anna T. Randall Diehl.

An Extended Death Notice, Northern Christian Advocate, February 4, 1875:

DIEHL.--Honorable and Rev. Israel S. Diehl--We announced the death of Brother Diehl when it first occurred, but there are several reasons why a more extended notice should be given of his character. In many respects he was a remarkable man. He was a native of New York State and was extensively and favorably known in the Methodist Episcopal Church. His ambition and perseverance in prosecuting his purposes were equal to any achievement. We saw him for the last time in our office, about one year ago. Brother Diehl was born in New Oxford, Adams County, New York [sic; Pennsylvania]. He graduated at Dickinson College in 1851. He soon after entered upon ministerial and missionary labors in the Methodist Episcopal Church, establishing Sabbath schools and preaching along the line of the Pennsylvania Canal, and the Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers. In 1853 he went to California, where he had pastoral charge of churches at Sacramento, Placerville and other places, afterwards performing the most extensive and arduous Temperance work which was ever wrought by any man. He traveled over three thousand miles by steamer, stages, upon horseback, and on foot, delivering one thousand public Temperance lectures. In the midst of this work, a terrible accident upon a Sacramento steamer disabled him for many months; but when sufficiently recovered to travel, he visited Central America, South America, Europe and Asia; was at one time Consul at Java, and aferwards United States Commissioner to Asia. May 4th, 1871, he was married to Mrs. Anna T. Randall, of New York, and they made a wedding trip to Europe, traveling through England, Wales, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Prussia, Holland and Belgium. Upon returning to this country he resumed the work upon which he had been principally engaged for the last three or four years, lecturing upon Oriental and Bible lands. Early in the winter of 1873 he contracted the disease which terminated with his death, lecturing for the last time for the Young Men's Christian Association of Washington, in April of that year. He left a large amount of manuscript matter, with the request that his wife should prepare it for publication. The funeral was attended at his father's house at New Oxford, and he was buried in the cemetery of that place, on Thursday, Rev. Mr. Barnitz, of York, a former schoolmate of the deceased, officiating at the funeral services. Mr. Diehl leaves an estate of about $2O,OOO, which, by will, is bequeathed to Mrs. Diehl and his relatives, excepting $l,OOO which go to benevolent societies of the Methodist Episcopal Church, viz: Church Extension $2OO, Education $2OO, Freedmen's Aid $2OO, Sunday School $2OO, Women's Foreign Mission Society $1OO, and Dickinson College $1OO."

Mr. Senter had been in feeble health for the past few years and cause of death may be attributed to the frailties of advanced age. Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church here; Rev. R. F. Nanney of Clarksville conducted the funeral services, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Annona Cemetery. Deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J. M. Thompson of Annona, and one brother Conway Senter of Alvarado, Texas. He is survived by nine grandchildren, five girls and four boys, four great-grandchildren. P. H. Senter was born in Gibson, TN 25 May 1834. In 1866 he came to Texas and located near Annona. He was married to Mrs. Rossie Elliott in 1869. HISTORICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ILLINOIS
& HISTORY OF MORGAN COUNTY (Munsell Publishing, 1906.):

"GILLHAM, William Waits, a well known undertaker of Jacksonville, Morgan County, Ill., was born on the old Gillham homestead, fifteen miles west of Jacksonville, January 9, 1872, the son of William A. and Rebecca (Waits) Gillham, who were natives respectively of Illinois and Kentucky. The founder of the American family was Thomas Gillham, a native of Northern Ireland and of the Presbyterian faith, who came to the United States in 1730 and settled in Virginia. He was the father of seven sons and four daughters, and all his sons and his four sons-in-law served in the Revolutionary War. The author of a "History of the State of Illinois," published in 1849, says that the Gillhams were strong supporters of morality and order. Though born in a slave State they recognized the corrupting influence of that institution, and firmly opposed its introduction into Illinois. The same authority claims that the Convention party of 1824 owed its defeat to the Gillham family and their kinsmen, who, in an almost solid phalanx, cast 500 votes against the proposition to make Illinois a slave State. James Gillham, one of this stalwart company and the grandfather of William W. Gillham, moved to Illinois from the Carolinas in 1805, taking up Government land in what was afterward Morgan County, and is now in Scott County which has remained in the same name, as when preempted from the Government. James Gillham died in 1869, honored and beloved by a host of friends.

Judge William A. Gillham was born on this farm in September, 1833. He was educated at McKendree College and Illinois College. He served four years as County Judge of Scott County, and was widely known for the impartiality and inflexible justice of his judicial rulings. In 1856 he was united in marriage with Rebecca Waits, who was born in 1836, in Harrison County, Ky. He departed this life at the old home, June 27, 1902.

William W. Gillham attended the public schools in boyhood, afterward graduating from Eureka College, and from the United States School of Embalming in New York. After finishing his preparation for practical life, he located in Winchester, Ill., where, in 1896 he established the firm of Gillham & Barton, undertakers. In 1898 he moved to Jacksonville, where he established a rapidly increasing business. Mr. Gillham is a member of the Illinois State Undertakers' Association.

On November 27, 1901, Mr. Gillham was united in marriage with Eva Davenport, of Jacksonville, daughter of L. M. and Adeline (Magill) Davenport.

Fraternally, Mr. Gillham is affiliated with the A.F. & A.M., Jacksonville Lodge, No. 570; Illinois Lodge, No. 4, I.O.O.F.; K. of P. Lodge, No. 152; M.W.A. Lodge, No. 912; D.O.K.K. Lodge, No. 62; and Delaware Tribe, I.O.R.R. Religiously, Mr. Gillham is a very active member of the Christian Church, in which he was elected Deacon in 1904. He also has the honor of serving on the board which supervises the erection of the new Christian Church edifice in Jacksonville."

"In a deposition about Hattie, Josie Haffely answers examiner about Hattie:

Q. And do you think she married Kerner in St. Louis?
A. Yes, Sir, I think so that my understanding, but I was not present.

Q. Had she been married prior to her marriage to Kerner?
A. I don't know but I think so. I don't know by what name she was using prior to her marriage to Kerner. No sir, there was never any question as to her having been married to Kerner, as they lived together for many years, and were recogzised as man and wife by all his people and all friends and acquaintances, and I have been at their home many a time. I knew her daughter Alma as she was with her along about the World's Fair [St. Louis, MO in 1904], and I think her name was Alma Hunley, and she had come from Okla to visit her mother. She was not married, don't know the address. I also think that Hattie had a son, but I did not see him, She had no child by Kerner. I know none of her people, not related to Hattie, and not financially interested. The last few times Hattie has written to me she signs, 'Hattie Hunley,' but she has also written me as 'Hattie Kerner,' as that was the name I knew her all the time in St. Louis, she and Kerner also worked at the shoe factories.

Taken from lines 46 to 62. Entire statement taken 9 Aug 1922 at St. Llouis, in the State of Missouri, by the Special Examiner of the Bureau for Pensions; Contested Civil War Pension files."
